to nature.

Wanale Combined Traders began as a family coffee trading venture on the slopes of Wanale Hill. Built on grit and relationships with local farmers, it celebrated the high-altitude Arabica coffee grown in this fertile landscape.

Over time, the family saw a new possibility in the land’s panoramic views. The original trading grounds became Wanale CT Campsite: a welcoming base for exploring Wanale Cliff, watching golden sunrises and sunsets, and reconnecting with nature.

Alongside a dedicated team, the founders helped establish the Mbale Hikers and Outdoor Club. A shared passion for exploration opened the trails to fellow hikers, campers and visitors, creating an outdoor culture that continues to bring people together.

Full Moon Parties and Easter Carnivals bring music, friendship and celebration to the cliffside. Through Explore Elgon activities and collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board, the club has also helped introduce more people to the beauty of the Wanale trails.

The campsite’s ties to its neighbours run deep. Through Ffena Tujjune — “Let us all help each other” — and the outdoor club network, that spirit extends into community work.

Collaboration with the Rotary Club of Mbale on the Annual Wanale Run brings fitness and purpose together, supporting local mountain schools, caring for the cliffside environment and helping vulnerable families on the slopes.
